Nitrox Diving Certificate


To introduce the sport diver to the techniques involved in diving with Nitrox to a limit of 40% oxygen. The CMAS-ISA Nitrox Diver Course is considered a basic-level speciality course.


To attend a Nitrox Diver Course:

  • Must be at least 15 years old.
  • Must submit a medical certificate clearing the holder as fit to participate in the sport of underwater diving before participating in any practical training. A medical practitioner using the CMAS-ISA Sport Diving Medical Examination Form must have carried out the medical examination more than 12 months previously.
  • Must hold a CMAS-ISA 1 Star Diver Certificate or approved equivalent certificate.
    The candidate must have executed a minimum of 25 dives (at least 4 of these performed within 8 weeks prior to the course).
  • To write the Nitrox Diver theory examination
  • Must attend a Nitrox Diver Course overseen by a CMAS-ISA speciality approved in-date Instructor. (Course Convenor)
  • To apply for a Nitrox Diver Certificate
  • Must pass the theory examination set by the Course Convenor and approved by the CMAS-ISA Technical Diving Committee. A pass mark of 65% is compulsory.
  • Must attend the practical session and have logged a least one dive on EAN32 and one EAN36, overseen by a Nitrox Instructor.


Part 6 and 7 must be done on the same course and on failing part 6 the candidate may have one rewrite within 3 months, failing which, the course must be re-done. The above-mentioned prerequisites are the minimum required for the CMAS-ISA Nitrox Diver Certificate.
